The Riau Malay Traditional Institute (LAM) awarded the traditional title to Mr. Inspector General Muhammad Iqbal as Riau Regional Police Chief, at the Riau Malay Traditional Hall, Jalan Diponegoro, Pekanbaru City, Friday (29/9/2023).
In this award, M Iqbal received the title Datuk Seri Jaya Perkasa Setia Negeri and had the right to be called Datuk Seri. This title is held for life and cannot be inherited.
This award was given to Inspector General M Iqbal after careful consideration, accommodating the aspirations of the Riau Malay community, and the results of the Riau Malay traditional density council meeting on Friday (24/2/2023). In the decision of the Riau LAM traditional density council meeting on September 17 2023 regarding the awarding of traditional titles to the Riau Regional Police Chief Inspector General M Iqbal.
"For me, this traditional title does not come from thought which is of course not normative. The word traditional title for me is a word that implies that I have done something appropriate according to custom or have shown great kindness to the blessed land of Riau," said Datuk Seri Jaya Perkasa Setia Negeri, Inspector General M Iqbal.
Datuk Seri emphasized that by being awarded this traditional title, he has become one of the Riau Malay people and is obliged to make contributions and services to the nation and state.
"Let me say honestly that the traditional title given to me is not (meaning, ed) that I have invested a very great kindness in the land of Riau. However, it is the land of Riau that has been virtuous to me," said Datuk Seri.
The kindness and manners of the Riau people have enabled the Riau Regional Police family to carry out their mandated duties well.
"We can carry out our duties, nation and state very comfortably and peacefully in the land of Riau, that is what cannot be repaid, as expressed in a pantun. The golden pot is taken to sail, one piece is cooked in the chest. The gold debt can be paid, Budi's debt is taken to death ," he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Riau, Datuk Seri Setia Amanah, Syamsuar, who was present at the awarding of the title, congratulated the Riau Regional Police Chief, Inspector General M Iqbal.
"The awarding of this title is in line with Mr. M Iqbal's very impressive character. He always maintains good and humane communication with the people of Riau," he said.
Syamsuar hopes that the title awarded can provide success and bring goodness in the future. "Hopefully the traditional title will become a trust and honor for the people of Riau. And Datuk Seri will be successful in the future," he concluded.
It should be noted that the title Datuk Seri Jaya Perkasa Setia Negeri has the meaning of someone who has the ability and strength, and can use the strength that exists within him to fulfill his responsibilities and obligations to create order in people's lives. All of this was done in the name of loyalty to the place where he lived and served.
